HIGHLANDS COUNTY HORSESHOE CLUB SPRING MEETING 03-31-2026 MINUTES Meeting was called to order by President Keith Schafer. Members in attendance: Keith Schafer, Tina Schafer, Cheryl Linck, Bob Paschen, Jean Normand, Kenny Wery, Mark Matzke, Terry Beagle, Bob Beagle, J D Bush, Kevin Swedine, Loren Douglass, Dave Bouse. Minutes from 2025 Spring Meeting were read by President Schafer. No corrections or additions. Mark Matzke made the motion to accept the minutes as read. Seconded by Tina Schafer. Minutes accepted as read by unanimous approval. Treasurer’s Report was given by President Schafer. Ending checking balance is $3,970.64. This luncheon is still to be paid. No questions. Cheryl Linck made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Jean Normand. Unanimous approval. Officer Reports: 1st VP Cheryl Linck, stepping down as 1st VP, appreciation of her learning the data entry for tournaments, she will continue to act in that role. 2nd VP Jack Morgan: Absent, no report. President Schafer thanked Jack for his service as an officer and wished him success in his move to Texas Facilities Managers Mark Matzke/Jean Normand: All the help from membership appreciated. Asked for help in turning pits before tournament tomorrow. Next year may have to look at the roof over the pavilion as getting pretty rusty. May need painting. Also some carpets and plastic may need to be replaced next year. Food prep for tournaments: Phil Linck, stepping back on role with club, too much to be lead on this. Tabled further discussion of Food Prep. President: Thanks to all who stepped up over the season to assist with the league and tournaments. Attendance at tournaments up, mostly due to hard work by membership. Old Business: none New Business: NHPA Tournament in December still Toys for Tots, moved up to December 2. Will do drawing for tournament entries instead of rebate for toys. Donations and toys will be equally weighted for entries for drawing. February and March tournaments moved to 3rd from the 10th to be on week before Winter Haven tournaments. 2026-2027 Schedule was handed out. No concerns or objections. Schedule allows for one cancellation. Any more missed due to weather or unforeseen circumstances may be made up. The first scheduled day of League is November 10th with a work day on November 3rd to get courts ready. The last day of League pitching is March 9th with Count-All on March 16th and Banquet on March 23rd or 30th. Sponsorships: Rex Brunson is returning to league next season and has expressed interest in finding sponsors for tournaments. President Schafer asked members to also look for opportunities. She suggested keeping, current president. Jean Normand formally nominated Keith Schafer, seconded by Mark Matzke. Unanimous. Keith Schafer is HCHC President for Season 2026-2027. The gavel was returned to President Schafer. First Vice President is Dave Bouse, nominated by Cheryl Linck, seconded by Mark Matzke. 2nd Vice President: no nominees, Cheryl Linck volunteered to serve another year. Secretary-Treasurer: No nominations or volunteers. Tabled until Fall. The officers will perform the duties until someone steps up to do the job. Officers will be continue to be signees on the account. Tournament Director: Keith Schafer will continue in that role. The vice presidents will be learning this role as a backup. Appointments: Keith Schafer will continue as League Director. Jean and Mark are appointed co-leads on Facilities. Dave Bouse stated that his wife may be interested in the food service role with assistance from Phil Linck. No volunteers for Publicity, this is tabled until fall.
